Winter Snow Operations

Seasonal Contract – November 1 – April 15


Wolf Lake Construction (2003) Inc. in Sudbury is hiring Labourers for shovelers. Labourers are responsible for the safe and professional hand shovelling, sanding and de-icing of client’s walkways, handicap ramps, storage areas, entrances, exits, sidewalks, walkways, areas around property signage and hydrants as part of our Snow Management Crew. This job affords you the opportunity for year-round employment and to develop yourself professionally.

Activities

Shovel client’s properties after snowfalls, freezing rain, meltdown/freeze-up conditions.
Snowblower usage in some areas.
Apply melt, sand/salt in designated areas as required to prevent slips and falls.
Check and fill sandboxes as required.
Work safely in snowy/icy conditions while avoiding damage to equipment and property.
Drive defensively under harsh weather conditions.
Supervise weather conditions and take necessary preparations of possible call-in to work.
Load and unload aggregates.
Maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings, be courteous to crew members, clients, patrons of the property.
Record keeping – timesheets, snow logs, reports and safety records.
Ability to use snow log software.
Properly use and return all tools and equipment to the yard in an organized and neat manner.
Conduct work in accordance with Ontario Health and Safety requirements.
Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees to adopt safety as a culture.
Demonstrated professionalism.
Addresses clients' questions, comments, and concerns or refers clients to the Supervisor as appropriate.
Participate as a vital team member, and work as part of a team.
Contribute towards the success of the organization by exchanging information and assisting in problem-solving.
Be prepared to assist crews with other tasks (physical or otherwise) when required.

Required Skills and Attributes

Possess a valid class G driving license, clean driver abstract and experience.
Preference will be given to individuals with snow shovelling/removal experience.
Reliable, punctual, possess a positive attitude, and a team player.
Must be committed to have assigned properties ready for 7:00 AM start of business.
Must be ready and committed to work on short notice at all times.
Ability to work extended hours and have access to a mobile phone and own transportation.
Ability to prioritize work in order to meet tight deadlines.
Ability to work quickly.
Must enjoy challenges and have the ability to adapt to the unpredictability of snow and winter conditions.
Physical ability to handle prolonged shovelling.
Heavy lifting required – the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Good eye/hand coordination.
Managing assigned tasks efficiently, effectively and under heavy workload/time constraints.
Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
